There are well over 400 wineries in Napa county alone that produce 21% of the total economic impact of wine in California. Napa, a place coined as the wine capital of the world sits just in the east bay’s backyard and produces some of the finest wines anywhere. But, for those of us that would like to enjoy the experience of wine tasting from a winery and don’t want to make the hour or more drive to the famed Napa county, we now have urban wineries popping up across the east bay. These urban wineries deliver high quality wines, have wine tasting services, and have all of the fun learning about and seeing the wine making process only minutes away from the UC Berkeley campus. There are a number of urban wineries in the area that are producing some great wine with most of them getting their grapes from the bigger wineries in Napa county. Urban wineries such as Urbano Cellars will bring in 25 tons or more of grapes per year to produce their wine here in the east bay. Being in an urban setting has the advantage of not having to own large plots of land to grow grapes on, rather, they pick which grapes from the hundreds of Napa wineries fit their wants and needs best.
